My name is Mara, and I am an English translator with an extensive experience living abroad, in different countries, so I know well well what it's like to be "on the other side of the counter"... 

So I DO know how important it is to put your foreign language at work.

It only takes regular practice... I can help you with the discipline of setting up a weekly meeting in some of the coolest, fancier bars in Palermo, where you will also be able to taste a delightful capuccino, caffe late or even a glass of some fine Argentinian wine... My advice is: go for a Malbec! 

The venu could also be some of the better known bars for their long history - they make up the exclusive list of the very few "Notable Bars", a well earned reputation for being over a 100 years old, such as the Café Tortoni ! You could sit at the very same table where Carlos Gardel sat so many times!

The idea is that you meet other fellow travellers, to have fun while you improve your Spanish knowledge, for a small fee: U$S 50 for a 2-hour thematic, guided conversation.

Groups can be arranged any day of the week at different times of the day

Como ex-tripulante de Costa, MSC y Princess Cruises, conozco la sensación de llegar al puerto, a lo mejor con alrededor de 3 o 4 horas libres y no saber bien ni qué hacer ni adonde ir. Es ahí donde puedo ayudarte! Hay una gran variedad de opciones en visitas gratuitas, a lugares a los que se puede ir con el subterráneo, sin necesidad ni de gastar en taxi! ( la estación más cercana está a unos 300 metros del puerto).

As an ex-crew member myself (I've worked for Costa Cruises, MSC Cruises and Princess Cruises), I know exactly what it is like to arrive in town, maybe with no more than a 3/4 hour-break, and not know well what to do. That is what I can help you with! There is a wide rage of visits you can do for free (or very low cost), where you can go by subway, wihout spending even on a cab! (the nearest subway station is only some 300 mts away from the cruise terminal).

El museo se puede visitar todos los días de la semana de 10 a 7:00 pm (la boletería cierra a las 6:00 pm). Existe la opción para visitar sólo el museo de forma independiente, o sólo el estadio (e ingresar al campo de juego).

The museum is open every day from 10:00 through 7:00 pm (tickets are sold till 6:00 pm). You have the option to visit only the museum, or just the stadium (which includes entering the field).

MUSEO DE ARTES PLASTICAS "EDUARDO SIVORI" - Museum of Plastic Arts "Eduardo Sivori"

El museo de Artes Plásticas está ubicado en frente al Rodesa, en el corazón del Parque 3 de Febrero, al interior de los Bosques de Palermo, el pulmón más extenso de la ciudad. Creado por orden del Presidente Sarmiento, fue diseñado por el arquitecto francés Carlos Thays. Abrió sus puertas en el año 1875.

Es un museo especializado en arte Argentino, exhibiendo colecciones de pinturas, esculturas, dibujos, gravados y tapices. El museo exhibe obras maestras tanto en sus muestras temporarias como en las permanentes, cuenta con un patrio de esculturas, una tienda y una cafetería, eso sin mencionar el fabuloso parque que lo rodea, constituyendo una atractiva oferta cultura.

Horarios: martes a viernes - 12:00 a 6:00 pm // sábados y domingos: 10:00 a 6:00 pm

The museum of Plastic Arts is located opposite the "Rosedal" (Roses Garden), in the heart of the "3 de Febrero Park", which is right in the middle of "los Bosques de Palermo" (Palermo Forest), the city's largest green area. It was created by order of President Sarmiento and it was designed by the French architect Carlos Thays. It opened in 1875.

This museum specializes in Argentinian art, showing collections of paintings, sculptures, drawings, engravings, and tapestry. It  features masterpieces in its permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as an sculpture patio, a shop and a cafeteria, all of which make up an interesting cultural attraction.

Opening hours: Tuesday - Friday - 12:00 through 6:00 pm
                            Saturday & Sunday - 10:00 through 6:00 pm

BAR TEMATICO PERON-PERON - Thematic Bar Restó PERON-PERON

PERON-PERON, nuevo bar temático abierto recientemente en Buenos Aires, que se ha convertido rápidamente en el reducto de moda para jóvenes justicialistas y altos cargos del Gobierno que amenizan sus tertulias políticas con platos y copas que rinden homenaje a la mítica figura del tres veces presidente argentino.

El local gastronómico, situado en el distrito de Palermo Hollywood, el barrio de moda de Buenos Aires, es además un imán para los turistas, que aprovechan un alto en el bar para zambullirse por un rato en la liturgia del movimiento justicialista y su creador, el general Juan Domingo Perón (1895-1974).

Con un altar dedicado a Evita Duarte, la segunda esposa de Perón, en el centro del recinto, el bar es un verdadero “collage” de todo lo que hace a la liturgia peronista y sus iconos, con fotos históricas, objetos decorativos cargados de simbolismo, un menú “ad hoc” y muchos otros elementos que dan al ambiente un toque antiguo y a la vez postmoderno.

The bar is located in the district of Palermo Hollywood, the trendy neighborhood of Buenos Aires, that is also a magnet for tourists, who can take advantage of a break in this bar to dive into the liturgy of the Peronist movement and its creator General Juan Domingo Perón (1895-1974).
With an altar dedicated to Evita Duarte Peron's second wife, right in the center, the bar is a true collage of everything that makes the Peronist liturgy and icons, with historical photographs, decorative objects laden with symbolism, a menu "ad hoc"and many other elements that give the room an ancient and yet postmodern touch.
