As an ex-crew member myself (I've worked for Costa Cruises, MSC Cruises and Princess Cruises), I know exactly what it is like to arrive in town, maybe with no more than a 3/4 hour-break, and not know well what to do. El museo se puede visitar todos los días de la semana de 10 a 7:00 pm (la boletería cierra a las 6:00 pm). Existe la opción para visitar sólo el museo de forma independiente, o sólo el estadio (e ingresar al campo de juego).

MUSEO DE ARTES PLASTICAS "EDUARDO SIVORI" - Museum of Plastic Arts "Eduardo Sivori"

El museo de Artes Plásticas está ubicado en frente al Rodesa, en el corazón del Parque 3 de Febrero, al interior de los Bosques de Palermo, el pulmón más extenso de la ciudad. Creado por orden del Presidente Sarmiento, fue diseñado por el arquitecto francés Carlos Thays. Abrió sus puertas en el año 1875.

Es un museo especializado en arte Argentino, exhibiendo colecciones de pinturas, esculturas, dibujos, gravados y tapices. El museo exhibe obras maestras tanto en sus muestras temporarias como en las permanentes, cuenta con un patrio de esculturas, una tienda y una cafetería, eso sin mencionar el fabuloso parque que lo rodea, constituyendo una atractiva oferta cultura.

The museum of Plastic Arts is located opposite the "Rosedal" (Roses Garden), in the heart of the "3 de Febrero Park", which is right in the middle of "los Bosques de Palermo" (Palermo Forest), the city's largest green area. It was created by order of President Sarmiento and it was designed by the French architect Carlos Thays. It opened in 1875.

This museum specializes in Argentinian art, showing collections of paintings, sculptures, drawings, engravings, and tapestry. It  features masterpieces in its permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as an sculpture patio, a shop and a cafeteria, all of which make up an interesting cultural attraction.

                            Saturday & Sunday - 10:00 through 6:00 pm

BAR TEMATICO PERON-PERON - Thematic Bar Restó PERON-PERON

PERON-PERON, nuevo bar temático abierto recientemente en Buenos Aires, que se ha convertido rápidamente en el reducto de moda para jóvenes justicialistas y altos cargos del Gobierno que amenizan sus tertulias políticas con platos y copas que rinden homenaje a la mítica figura del tres veces presidente argentino.

El local gastronómico, situado en el distrito de Palermo Hollywood, el barrio de moda de Buenos Aires, es además un imán para los turistas, que aprovechan un alto en el bar para zambullirse por un rato en la liturgia del movimiento justicialista y su creador, el general Juan Domingo Perón (1895-1974).

Con un altar dedicado a Evita Duarte, la segunda esposa de Perón, en el centro del recinto, el bar es un verdadero “collage” de todo lo que hace a la liturgia peronista y sus iconos, con fotos históricas, objetos decorativos cargados de simbolismo, un menú “ad hoc” y muchos otros elementos que dan al ambiente un toque antiguo y a la vez postmoderno.

DELTA del TIGRE y PUERTO de FRUTOS - TIGRE Estuary & Fruit Market

Sitio ideal para aquellas personas  que se deciden a salir de compras. En sus inicios funcionaba como dice su nombre como mercado de frutas y verduras, donde los propios isleños exponían y vendían sus cosechas desde sus embarcaciones, pero lo más anecdótico, es que muchos de ellos debían remar varias horas para llegar hasta aquí y llevar a sus hogares  unos pocos pesos. Una realidad muy distinta a la actual , hoy no solo se puede comprar frutas y verduras, sino que se ha convertido en un gran mercado. Encontraremos regalos de todo tipo, plantas, cerámicas, prendas de vestir, comestibles, muebles, artículos del hogar, artesanías en mimbre y junco etc. Se pueden realizar paseos en lanchas turísticas y catamaranes que nos hacen conocer las islas del Delta, los ríos Sarmiento y Luján etc. En el lugar existe una gran variedad de restaurantes y lugares de comidas rápidas, muchos de ellos con vista al río Luján. A pocos metros del Puerto de Frutos se encuentra el Casino de Tigre Trilenium con juegos de azar, shows y espectáculos en vivo y el Parque de la Costa con juegos de recreación para todas las edades.

Ideal place for those who decide to go shopping. In the beginning it worked as a real fruit and vegetable market, where the islanders themselves exhibited and sold their crops from their boats.  As the anecdote goes, it would often take them several hours to arrive there and then they would only make  very few pesos. A reality very different from today! Nowadays you can buy not only fruits and vegetables, but a wide variety of  articles, as the Puerto de Frutos has developped into a well-known market. You will find gifts of all kinds, plants, pottery, clothing, food, furniture, household items, wicker and rattan handicrafts etc. You can also take a boat or a catamaran ride to the islands of the Delta estuary, or down the  rivers Sarmiento and Lujan. In the park there is a wide variety of restaurants many of them overlooking the river Luján. A few meters from the Puerto de Frutos is the Casino de Tigre Trilenium with gambling, shows and live entertainment and the Parque de la Costa with recreational games for all ages.

MUSEO CASA DE CARLOS GARDEL - CARLOS GARDEL'S Birth Place Museum

El inmueble fue adquirido por Carlos Gardel para su madre, Berta Gardés, en 1927, a través de un crédito del Banco Nación. Allí vivieron juntos hasta 1933, último año de la estancia del cantante en Buenos Aires antes de viajar a Francia. Desde entonces, su madre compartió la vivienda con su amiga Anais Beaux y el compañero de ésta, Fortunato Muñiz, quienes la habían empleado en su taller de planchado cuando llegó al país. Al morir Berta, en 1943, la casa quedó en manos de Armando Defino, último representante de Gardel.

The property was acquired by Carlos Gardel for his mother, Berta Gardés in 1927 through a National Bank credit. They lived together until 1933, the last year the singer stayed in Buenos Aires before he travelled to France. Since then, her mother shared the home with her friend Beaux Anais and her partner, Fortunato Muñiz, who had employed her in their ironing workshop when she arrived in the country . When Berta died in 1943, the house passed into the hands of Armando Define, last representative of Gardel.

CASA NATAL DE EVA PERON - Los Toldos (Pcia. Bs.As.) / Eva Peron's Birth House (Los Toldos, Prov. de Bs. As.)

El día 9 de junio de 2004 el Honorable Concejo Deliberante de Gral. Viamonte sancionó la creación del Museo Municipal "Casa Natal María Eva Duarte de Perón", la casa donde transcurriera parte de su infancia. En un principio estuvo ubicado en la calle Francia, pero por Ordenanza Municipal, la arteria pasó a denominarse Eva Perón. Actualmente ha sido reciclada respetando totalmente su estilo.
El inmueble recibe visitas de seguidores y admiradores de sus obras, además de políticos y turistas nacionales e internacionales.

On June 9, 2004 the Honorable Council of General Viamonte sanctioned the creation of the "Casa Natal Maria Eva Duarte de Peron's Birth Home Museum", the house where he spent part of her childhood. At first the street name was France, but bay a municipal ordinance, the artery was renamed Eva Perón. It has now completely been completely restaured respecting its original style.
The building is visited not only by followers and admirers but by polititians and turists from all over the world.

FERIA (DE ANTICUARIOS) DE SAN TELMO y PLAZA DORREGO (sólo los domingos) / San Telmo Antique's Fair at Dorrego Square - (only on Sundays)

Temprano a la mañana, cada domingo desde 1970, una curiosa ceremonia se repite en el escenario de la Plaza Dorrego: baúles, cajas, hierros, tablas, canastos, se superponen en un repiqueteo que asombra a los noctámbulos que alargan la noche con un café de última hora, y a los madrugadores que comienzan el día. A esa hora, la Feria de Cosas Viejas y Antigüedades de San Pedro Telmo comienza a tomar forma, se construye sobre el adoquinado de la plaza y repite un ritual que se ha convertido en el corazón de un barrio que los domingos late de una manera especial.

Early in the morning, every Sunday since 1970, a curious ceremony is repeated on the stage at the Plaza Dorrego, trunks, boxes, irons, boards, baskets, overlap in a patter that amazes lengthening the night owls and and early birds alike. At that time, the Fair Old Stuff Antiques of San Pedro Telmo begins to take shape, is on the cobblestones of the square and repeats a ritual that has become the heart of a neighborhood that on Sundays beats in a special way .
The fair is usually set up by 9:00 a.m. and lasts till 5:00 p.m.You can wrap up your visit by having lunch in the fabulous grill house ("parrilla") LA BRIGADA, undoubtedly, among the very best in town, where you will be able to taste the best - ever rumpsteak.

CAFE TORTONI - TORTONI Cafe

Fundado en 1858, el Café Tortoni es el más antiguo de Argentina. Entre sus enmaderadas paredes, junto a sus mesas de roble y mármol verde, se sentaron Alfonsina Storni, Benito Quinquela Martín, Carlos Gardel, Baldomero Fernández Moreno, Luigi Pirandello, Federico García Lorca y Arturo Rubinstein entre otros artistas, hombres de letras y parlamentarios que traspasaron algo de su personalidad a este tradicional café, inseparable ya de la historia de Buenos Aires.

Founded in 1858, Café Tortoni is the oldest café in Argentina. Among its wood-paneled walls, along with its oak tables and green marble, sat Alfonsina Storni, Quinquela, Carlos Gardel, Baldomero Fernandez Moreno, Luigi Pirandello, Federico García Lorca and Arthur Rubinstein and other artists, writers and MPs transferred some of its traditional character to this cafe, part and parcel of  Buenos Aires's history.

CAFE BRITANICO & PARQUE LEZAMA - Cafe Britanico & Lezama Park

Algunos historiadores aseguran que fue en estas barrancas naturales donde Don Pedro de Mendoza realizó el primer asentamiento de la ciudad, tal vez porque se trataba del punto más alto de la costa desde donde podía dominarse toda la vista del Rio de la Plata. Lo cierto es el actual Parque Lezama es un lugar con mucha historia. Fue depósito de negros esclavos, luego escenario de una de las batallas de la Primera Invasión Inglesa, emprendida por el General Beresford, y transformada el inglés David MacKinley en una quinta de su propiedad, sobre la cual hizo flamear un a bandera inglesa, que le valió ser llamada popularmente “la quinta de los ingleses”. En 1857 fue adquirida por un comerciante salteño llamado José Gregorio Lezama, quien amplió la propiedad (hoy transformada en Museo Histórico Nacional) y emprendió una importante tarea de cuidado de los árboles y plantas existentes acompañada por una tarea de forestación que le otorgo frondosidad y riqueza por la incorporación de especies exóticas al parque, además de sumarle escalinatas, lagos y glorietas, entre otros detalles que le han otorgado la riqueza y belleza que mantiene en la actualidad. Después de la muerte de Lezama, su viuda, Angela Álzaga, vendió el predio a la Comuna bajo la condición que fuera destinado a un parque público que debía llevar el nombre de su marido. En este parque transcurre gran parte de la obra “Sobre héroes y tumbas” del escritor Ernesto Sábato. Cuenta además con un anfiteatro que tiene capacidad para 6000 personas, donde se llevan a cabo, distintos espectáculos musicales.

Some historians claim it was in these natural ravines where Don Pedro de Mendoza made the first settlement of the city, perhaps because it was the highest point on the coast where he could dominate the entire view of the Rio de la Plata. The truth is today Lezama Park is a place rich in history. Originally a deposit of slaves it was then the scene of one of the battles of the First English Invasion, undertaken by General Beresford, it later became property of an English, David McKinley, where he flew the English flag, which led it to its being popularly called "the farm of the English". In 1857 was bought by a businessman from Salta named Jose Gregorio Lezama, who extended the property (now converted into National History Museum) and undertook a major task of caring for existing trees and plants accompanied by a job that gace it  lush forestation and wealth by the introduction of alien species to the park, plus add steps, lakes and gazebos, among other details that have given the richness and beauty that continues today. After Lezama's death, his widow, Angela Álzaga, sold the land to the community under the condition that was intended for a public park should be named after her husband.  The best part of the book "On Heroes and Tombs" by the writer Ernesto Sabato takes place on this park. It also has an amphitheater that seats 6000 people, on which a wide variety of musical performances are regularly held.
